Auvi Trade — Building Regs & Calculators for UK Tradespeople

Last updated: 7 March 2026

What Auvi Trade is

Auvi Trade is a reference and calculation tool for UK tradespeople — electricians, plumbers, and gas engineers. It provides searchable Building Regulations content (Approved Documents), trade-specific calculators, fault-finding guides, and voice-powered Q&A, all running entirely on your device.

By downloading, installing, or using Auvi Trade (“the App”), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use this App. By using Auvi Trade, you confirm that you are 18 or older and legally capable of entering into a binding agreement.

Licence

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for your personal or internal business purposes. You may not reverse-engineer, copy, modify, or distribute the App or its content.

Not a substitute for professional judgement — please read this

Important: Auvi Trade is an educational reference tool. It is not a substitute for:

You are solely responsible for ensuring your work complies with all applicable regulations, standards, and manufacturer requirements. Calculations and reference content are provided as guidance tools to assist competent persons — they do not replace the need for professional judgement.

Safety-critical work: Electrical, gas, and plumbing installations can cause death, serious injury, or property damage if carried out incorrectly. Gas work must only be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer — it is a criminal offence under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 for unregistered persons to carry out gas work. Notifiable electrical work must be certified by a competent person or inspected by Building Control.

Accuracy

Calculations provide theoretical estimates based on physics and engineering formulae, cable manufacturer datasheets, and publicly available product standards. They do not account for site-specific conditions, gas tightness testing, or ventilation requirements. Reference content is based on Approved Documents published under the Open Government Licence. Both may contain errors, omissions, or become outdated due to regulatory amendments.

Do not rely solely on this app for safety-critical decisions. Always verify calculations and regulatory requirements independently, using current editions of the relevant standards and manufacturer data. All gas work must be verified by on-site testing and certified by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

England and Wales only: Content is based on Approved Documents applicable to England and Wales. Different regulations apply in Scotland (Scottish Building Standards) and Northern Ireland. Users outside England and Wales should consult the regulatory framework that applies in their jurisdiction.

Scotland: This app provides reference information only. It is not a substitute for the skill and care expected of a competent person under the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and associated Technical Handbooks. Users in Scotland must ensure compliance with Scottish Building Standards, including building warrant requirements where applicable.

Regulatory currency: Approved Documents and Building Regulations are amended periodically. Always verify against the current editions published at gov.uk/government/collections/approved-documents. The App may not reflect the most recent amendments at all times.

Voice Q&A and on-device language models

Auvi Trade includes a Voice Q&A feature that uses on-device language models to generate answers to natural-language questions about Building Regulations and trade topics. These answers are generated by AI and are not verified against current editions of the Approved Documents or BS 7671 in real time.

On-device models may produce answers that are incomplete, out of date, or incorrect. You must not rely on Voice Q&A answers for safety-critical decisions including (but not limited to) cable sizing, gas safety, fire stopping, or any work that is notifiable under Building Regulations. Always cross-check answers against the relevant Approved Document, BS 7671, or manufacturer instructions.

Content sources and copyright

Approved Documents: Reference content is derived from Approved Documents published by HM Government under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Crown copyright.

Calculations: All calculations are derived from physics and engineering first principles, conductor properties published by cable manufacturers, and publicly available product standards (e.g., EN 60898 for MCB characteristics). No copyrighted BS 7671 tables, IET publication text, or IET diagrams are reproduced.

BS 7671 references: The app references BS 7671 regulation numbers (e.g., “Regulation 411.3.2.1”) without quoting the regulation text. Users who need full regulation text should refer to their own copy of BS 7671.

Purchases and subscriptions

Auvi Trade Premium is an auto-renewable subscription at £19.99 per year. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription automatically renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.

You can manage and cancel subscriptions by going to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad, or via App Store account settings. You have a statutory 14-day cooling-off period from initial purchase (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013).

All purchases and subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store. Refunds are handled by Apple per their refund policy. We do not process payments directly.

Regulatory content and updates

While we strive to update content to reflect current regulations, subscription does not guarantee real-time regulatory compliance. Building Regulations, BS 7671, and manufacturer standards are subject to amendment at any time. Users must verify all calculations against the current edition of the relevant standard before use, regardless of subscription status.

Regulatory updates are provided on a best-efforts basis. We do not warrant that all content reflects the most current regulatory edition at all times. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the subscription fees paid in the current subscription year.

Service availability

We do not warrant uninterrupted availability of the service. The app operates offline; however, subscription validation requires periodic connectivity to Apple’s App Store servers. We are not liable for loss of access due to device failure, iOS incompatibility, or Apple service outages.

Data and privacy

Your privacy matters. See our Privacy Policy for full details. The summary: no data is collected, and all processing happens on your device.

Acceptable use

Use the App only for lawful purposes. The App is intended for use by competent persons and persons undergoing training in the UK building trades.

By using this App, you represent that you are a competent person within the meaning of BS 7671 and the Building Regulations, or that you are undergoing training under the supervision of a competent person.
