Auvi Trade — Building Regs & Calculators for UK Tradespeople
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Siri with Auvi Trade?
Yes. Say “Hey Siri, ask Auvi Trade” and Siri will ask what you want to know. Speak your question and Siri reads the answer back from the Approved Documents — completely hands-free. This works even when the app is not open.
Does Auvi Trade need an internet connection?
No. Auvi Trade works entirely offline. All reference content, calculators, and voice Q&A processing runs on your device. No internet connection is required at any time after initial download from the App Store.
Does Auvi Trade replace BS 7671?
No. Auvi Trade is a reference and calculation tool that complements your copy of BS 7671. It does not reproduce any BS 7671 text, tables, or diagrams. Calculations are derived from physics first principles and manufacturer datasheets. Users who need specific regulation text should refer to their own copy of BS 7671.
Where do the calculations come from?
All calculations are derived from physics and engineering principles: Ohm’s law, conductor resistivity, thermal limits, and cross-sectional area. Cable data comes from manufacturer datasheets (publicly available). MCB trip characteristics come from the EN 60898 product standard. No copyrighted BS 7671 tables are used.
Is the Approved Document content accurate?
Reference content is based on the current editions of the Approved Documents published by HM Government under the Open Government Licence v3.0 (Crown copyright). However, regulations can change. Always check that you are using the current edition for your work, and consult your local Building Control Body if in doubt.
Does Auvi Trade collect any data?
No. Auvi Trade collects no data whatsoever. No analytics, no tracking, no crash reports, no telemetry. Our App Store privacy label says “No Data Collected” because that is literally true. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How does Voice Q&A work?
Voice Q&A uses Apple’s on-device speech recognition to convert your spoken question into text, then searches the Approved Document content for the most relevant answer. All processing happens on your device — no audio is recorded or sent anywhere. You can also type questions instead of speaking.
Will Auvi Trade be updated for BS 7671 Amendment 4?
Yes. Amendment 4 publishes 15 April 2026 and takes effect later in 2026. Auvi Trade will be updated to reflect the new requirements, including stationary secondary batteries, functional earthing for ICT systems, Power over Ethernet, and the revised medical locations section.
Which trades does Auvi Trade cover?
Electrical, plumbing, and gas. Calculators include cable sizing, voltage drop, Zs (earth fault loop impedance), maximum demand, CPC sizing (adiabatic), pipe sizing, gas pipe sizing, and heat loss. Reference content covers Approved Documents P (Electrical Safety), G (Sanitation & Hot Water), J (Combustion Appliances), B (Fire Safety), and L (Energy Conservation).
Is there a free trial?
Yes. New installs get a 7-day free trial with full access to all features. No payment details required. After the trial, a subscription of £19.99/year unlocks everything. Cancel any time.
Is this a subscription?
Yes. Auvi Trade Premium is £19.99 per year. You get a 7-day free trial with full access to all features — no payment details required during the trial. After the trial, subscribe to keep access. You can cancel any time from your App Store account settings.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can cancel at any time from your Apple ID subscription settings. You’ll keep access until the end of your current billing period. Go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad.
Can I save my calculations?
Your recent calculations are kept on device and shown in Recent Calculations on the Home screen. You can also export calculation results as text to share via email, Messages, or other apps.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. Auvi Trade runs on both iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later. On iPad the layout adapts to use the larger screen with a multi-column home grid and comfortable spacing.
How do I request a refund?
All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store. Refunds are handled by Apple per their refund policy. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund.
Why does Auvi Trade ask me to accept safety notices?
Auvi Trade includes safety-critical calculators for gas and electrical work. On first launch you’ll see a general safety acknowledgment confirming you understand that all outputs must be independently verified. Gas calculators also require you to confirm your Gas Safe registration before access, and the Voice Q&A feature asks you to acknowledge that AI answers may be incorrect. These are one-time acknowledgments — once accepted, they won’t appear again.
